Radical democracy in action: citizens’ assemblies & participatory budgeting

The evening will include an introduction to citizens’ assemblies and participatory budgeting with Will Stringer from the Sortition Foundation, Laura Moodie from Scotland’s Climate Assembly and Councillor Susan Rae.

Hear from Will about the new campaign for a house of citizens in Scotland, as he provides an overview of the concept of citizens’ assemblies. Explore what this might look like in practice on a national level, as Laura talks about her work with Scotland’s Climate Assembly and the role citizens’ assemblies might have to play in climate campaigns. Finally,  hear from Susan about how this plays out on a local level with her involvement with “£eith Chooses”, a participatory budgeting scheme in Leith.

One of the key pillars of Green politics is radical democracy, and this event is your opportunity to explore the idea with others.
