The Greens currently hold seven council seats across the city and want to give every Edinburgh resident the chance to vote Green in 2022. More Green representatives are needed in the City Chambers to keep council leaders on track to meet the city’s ambition of reaching Net Zero by 2030.
Claire Miller, Scottish Green Party Councillor for Edinburgh City Centre and Co-Convenor of the Edinburgh City Council Green Group said:
“From securing a rent freeze for council tenants, to improving walking and cycling provision across the city, from saving Gorgie City Farm to introducing a Low Emission Zone, Green Councillors have made clear and positive differences to the lives of everybody in Edinburgh since 2017.
Our Green group were instrumental in securing Edinburgh’s commitment to Net Zero by 2030. But, all too often we’ve seen other parties talk a green game while failing to introduce the policies needed to tackle the Climate Emergency at a local level. To get Green – you need to vote Green. That’s why we are offering every resident the chance to elect a Green councilor in their ward in May.”
The Scottish Green Party will launch their vision of an Edinburgh for all, when they publish their local manifesto in April.
Kayleigh O’Neill, the Green Party candidate for Forth ward said:
“Edinburgh is an amazing city, but it is also deeply unequal. Social justice and climate justice go hand in hand and a vote for Scottish Green is a vote for a city that works for all. Our aim is for everybody in Edinburgh to enjoy safe, warm, affordable housing, accessible greens spaces and to have 20 minute neighbourhoods where they can get access to everything they need in walking, cycling and wheeling distance.
With more Green voices in the City Chambers we can do even more to deliver a cleaner, greener and more socially just way of life for everybody in our community.”
