Dan Heap was elected the Green councillor for Sighthill/Gorgie ward in the 2022 Council Elections.
Dan is a long-time resident of the ward, living in Dalry and having previously worked at Napier University’s campus in Sighthill.
He is a university lecturer specialising in social security, and has helped Greens to develop policy in these areas, some of which have gone on become Scottish Government policy, including an end to benefit sanctions through Scottish employment programmes and a ban on unnecessary disability benefits assessments. If elected, he hopes to be able to use his policymaking and academic experience to the benefit of the people of Sighthill/Gorgie.
Dan’s priorities for the ward are reducing poverty; improving high streets; affordable housing and expanding cycling, wheeling and walking opportunities.
